Marking an Egg Shell for a Round Hinge Ring

1) Mark the center top and bottom of the egg shell.

2) Mark a girth line on the shell.  This will help you to get the hinge ring level.

3) Make a template from a piece of file folder by drawing around the outside of the hinge ring with a sharp pencil. Now cut just inside of the line you drew.  Slip the templateopening over the egg using your girth line marking to make sure it is level.  Tape the template on the egg and draw along the line.  Make a vertical mark on the shell,so after it's cut you can match up the parts "eggsactly"!

4) The hinge ring will fit one cut (usually the lower) exactl and the upper mayl need to be filled in with braid or rhinestone chain. This occurs due to the natural variations in the shape of the egg. If you want the egg hinged in the center, use regular hinges as it is next to impossible to find just a perfectly symmetrical egg.
